A Light Dependent Resistor (wiki) or photo-resistor is a resistor of which the resistance depends on the amount of light received. More light means less electrical resistance for an LDR. LDR`s are sensible to a wide range of light wavelengths including laser. For Arduino we have 3 tastes of the same sensor. They all 3 need an analogue pin:
  • LDR
    altalt Dit is de goedkoopste oplossing maar u moet zelf een kleine schakeling maken met een weerstandje van 100kΩ (R2) om een spanningsdeler op te zetten. R1 is de LDR. Vin mag direct aan de voeding (5Vdc) worden aangesloten. Vout moet dan worden aangesloten op de Arduino aan een ingangspin met een AD-convertor. Een LDR kost ongeveer € 0.11/stuk. Adafruit heeft ook een handige uitleg. Er bestaan verschillende types LDR die ieder een eigen maximale weerstand hebben. Indien u absolute waardes nodig heeft dan moeten de waardes dus nog worden geijkt.
    • Flora voortuin
      • De Flora voortuin robot is een robot die zorg draagt voor de bewatering. De robot wil dus graag weten hoe sterk de zon heeft geschenen gedurende de dag, zodat hij de hoeveelheid water daarop kan aanpassen. Het meetbereik moet daarom breed zijn. Daartoe is de weerstand bepaald op 10kΩ (bruin zwart oranje).
    • Flora hobbykas robot
      • Deze robot gebruikt de LDR om te bepalen of het dag of nacht is zodat de automatische verlichting mag worden aangeschakeld. Hierbij mag het meetbereik veel steiler zijn. Oftewel hij slaat in een heel kort traject helemaal om van dag naar nacht.

  • LDR Brick = KY-018
    alt KY-018 is an even easier LDR brick solution. It needs no soldering and includes already a resistor to create a voltage divider. They cost about € 1.53 /piece. We have a cheap Chinese imitation brick with a silk print error. In stead of S(=signal) it has a + printed. But the connections should be made as normal. You can run a test sketch.

  • LDR Light sensor module
    altThis is the most expensive solution with a LDR for Arduino. They cost about € 1.98 /piece. It needs no soldering. You might want to use this sensor if you want to read a comparable value in Lumen (also see Growleds). It is overdone if you just want to establish whether it is day or night, but handy to calculate how much extra light you should have in your propagator for example. This module has 3 pins to connect: GND, VCC and SIG. The SIG needs an analogue Input pin.
