• Solar panel
  The purple power unit provides us with several voltages, all derived from the 12Vdc connection. The wattages are the maximum power continuously. In our case the solar panel is not always connected. CAN THE BOX BE OPERATED IF NO SOLAR PANEL IS CONNECTED???? The voltage range is specified at 6.9Vdc – 17.2Vdc. A Gel type of battery needs 14.4Vdc for both boost charge and maintenance charge. So 15Vdc seems reasonable as Voltage to supply to the Solar panel input. 100W seems enough for this battery though the SCC can have up to 240W. This powersupply (20,90) provides 360W. 15Vdc is only suitable in combination with the SCC.

The Steca PR 2020 is a controller used to charge a battery with solar panels while servicing power to a consumer load. It can NOT be used without a solar panel, since it will generate error code 6.

• Connection sequence
  The Steca has a automatic voltage selector between 12Vdc, 20A or 24Vdc, 10A systems. For this selector to work correctly always use the following connection sequence:
  1. Battery
  2. Solar panel
  3. Consumer load

• Ground connections
  Observe that there is no common connection, e.g. across a ground connection, the minus module connections, battery minus and load minus. So do never connect the 3 negative connections of the Steca to each other. Non-observance can damage the regulator! So do not ground the negative connections. However the positive connections may be grounded if desired.

Settings: We operate a Gel type of battery. Always first connect the ground. If the Vdc is connected first then the casing might cause the circuit to close. The heart of the system is a Solar Charge Controller. This SCC has 3 connections, shown in the sequence in which you should connect them to the SCC:
